G-20 : POLICE DRIVE TO CHECK BAD ELEMENTS

Keeping in view the present security scenario and forthcoming G-20 meeting in the city, Chandigarh police on the directions of Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP/UT, Chandigarh carried out special search operations in the area of PS-Mauli Jagran, PS-11 and PP-24, Chandigarh. The drive was carried out from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM with adequate force from Police Stations, IRB, Police Lines, Security Wing, WPS, DCC, PHQ and HGVs. The main purpose of these search operations and checking drives was to check the suspected persons and to get the verification of outsiders moved to Chandigarh during the last few days.

Special Checking Drive at Mauli Jagran: - The drive was headed by SDPO, North-East Sh. Udaypal Singh, along with SHO/Mauli Jagran, SHO/Mani Majra, SHO/I.T Park and I/C DCC with a force of 142 police personnel from Sub-Division North-East, and other units of Chandigarh Police.

A total of 15 different police teams were constituted for proper verification and during the checking drive 52 suspicious persons were rounded up. During the checking, action under section 110 Cr.P.C was recommended against 5 habitual offenders/history sheeters and report in the matter is being sent to the SDM/East. During the said drive a total of 51 vehicles were issued challans and 25 vehicles were impounded for various violations.

Special Checking Drive at PS-11 and PP-24: - The drive was headed by SDPO, Central, Sh. Gurmukh Singh, CPS along with SHO/PS-11, 03, 17, Sarangpur and I/C PP-24 with a force of 83 police personnel from PS-11, 17, Sarangpur and other units of Chandigarh Police.

During the checking drive 55 suspicious persons were rounded up and got verified. During the checking, 16 persons who are already involved in crime such as snatching, burglary, robbery etc were found presently lodged in jail and remaining are let off after verification of their present activities.

During the said drive a total of 44 vehicles were brought to police stations for verification out of which 25 had temporary numbers while the remaining 15 are being verified. 10 vehicles were issued challans and 5 vehicles were impounded for various violations.

During the checking, the areas were got cordoned off and local police placed check posts / nakas along with PCR vehicles around the checking areas. The rounded up persons were brought to Police Stations and were released after proper verification.

The particulars of the suspects were noted down and Information sheets are being sent to their native police stations for verification of addresses and previous antecedents. During the drive, a thorough search/checking of suspected vehicles and persons were conducted while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the general public. Such drive will be conducted in future also.
