Dr. Atul Fulzele, IPS has assumed charge of Inspector General, BSF Punjab Frontier on 16th Mar’ 2023. He is a 2001 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre. He has been appointed in place of outgoing IG BSF Shri Asif Jalal, IPS
Shri Asif Jalal, in his tenure from Feb’ 2022 till now, kept the smuggling on Indo - Pak border under control while commanding the Punjab Frontier and under his leadership the drone menace was checked effectively.
Born in Neri village of District - Chandrapur of Maharashtra, Dr. Atul Fulzele has done his MBBS from Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College, Yavatmal and MD in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology from Topiwala National Medical College and Nair Hospital Mumbai. He is alumni of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore and Harvard Kennedy School of Governance, Harvard University, USA.
Dr. Atul Fulzele has worked in various prestigious positions in Himachal Pradesh - notably Superintendent of Police in district Kangra for 3 years and in district Una for 2 years. He also served as the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai from year 2010 to 2017. While working in the CBI, he investigated various high level bank fraud cases and investigated Adarsh Housing scam.

He was assigned to lead the team in Lima, Peru for the extradition of international drug smuggler and fugitive Yaniv Benaim @ Atala, wanted in the Goa drug case. Dr Atul Fulzele successfully got him extradited to India in 2011 and brought him to justice. He was also posted
as Inspector General of Police and Principal / Director, Himachal Pradesh Police Training Academy / College, Daroh.
Before joining BSF, he was posted as IG Crime, CID Shimla. He is coming to Punjab after commanding the South Bengal Frontier of BSF at Kolkata as IG since Mar’ 2022. Dr. Atul Fulzele has been decorated with following medals and honours :-

➢ 2nd Best PIO – 2009, National Award for implementation of Right to Information Act.
