Taking serious note of the suspension of the work of issuing registration certificates (RCs) of new vehicles and driving license (DLs), Punjab Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, on Friday, issued contract termination notice to "Smart Chip Limited" company for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of issuing RCs and DLs in a stipulated time-frame.

Earlier show cause notices were issued to the company due to halting of work, to which no adequate response was given by the company.

Giving details, the Transport Minister said, the management of the company was being instructed from the last several days to complete the work in a timely manner as per the terms and conditions of the contract in view of the reports of delay in the issuing work. Show cause notices were also issued to the company by the transport department, but the company continued to reluctant for timely complete the work.

The Cabinet Minister informed that offer letters are being issued to L-2 and L-3 companies and Public Sector Units (PSUs) to allot this work so that registration certificates and driving licenses could be issued at the earliest.Laljit Singh Bhullar strictly asked that stern legal action will be taken against the company, which does not live up to the agreement, adding that the process of blacklisting the company has also been initiated for disrupting the government work.

The Cabinet Minister said that directions were also given to Mr. A.S. Rai, ADGP Traffic, Punjab Police that the RCs and DLs downloaded from DigiLocker or M. Parivahan App should be considered as valid and commuters showing these online documents should not be challaned.
