Vice President of India Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar, on Saturdaty degrees on 70th Convocation , which held at Panjab University on Saturday. 

Mr. Dhankharm who also the Chancellor of the Panjab University said,  it is my proud privilege to extend and thanked for his warm welcome. He was accompanied by his wife  Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, has graced the occasion with her presence.

Mr. Dhankhar thanked Governor of Punjab, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit , Governor of Haryana, Sh. Bandaru Dattatreya Ji, Sh. Som Parkash Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister, Sh. Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister.Distinguished recipients of Honorary Degrees, Panjab University Ratna Awardees, Acclaimed personalities from different professions in the audience, Members of Panjab University Syndicate and Senate, Deans and Members of various Faculties, Media persons, and my Dear Students.

He said, today is a day of immense delight and pleasure for all of us as Panjab University organizes its 70thconvocation to award 497Ph.D. Degrees (172 male and 325 female), felicitate 72undergraduate (10 male and 62 female) and 313postgraduate (74 male and 239 female) toppers and present Gold medals 107 undergraduate (11 male and 96 female) and 137postgraduate (36 male and 101 female), across various faculties and disciplines. Additionally, it is a great honor that 2 honoris causa degrees, and 5 PU Ratna awards in different categories will be bestowed on eminent personalities and dignitaries from various fields.

Panjab University is continuously striving for excellence in every aspect, be it advancement of knowledge, promotion of innovation and creativity, lifelong learning, or community engagement.

● Panjab University is placed 8th in national ranking by Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR), ranked 8th in Best Global Universities in India by US News, placed in the top 200 universities of Asia in the Times Higher Education ASIA University Rankings in 2022.

● Panjab University has secured 25th position in the University Rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022.

● University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), PU has secured 3rd rank in NIRF ranking 2022

● In testimony to providing holistic education to its students, PU has secured overall 3rd rank at the Khelo India University Games held at Bangalore for session 2022 and won 15 Gold, 9 Silver and 24 Bronze medals.

● PU sports added another feather to its cap, by winning 36 Gold, 31 Silver and 37 Bronze medals at the National University Games for the session 2022.

● Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF), has entered into 2 international MoUs with Smart Materials Laboratory University of Southern Denmark and Graduate School of Converging Science and Technology, Korea University, in the year 2022. SAIF has conducted various workshops under STUTITraining Programme covering 27 states, 4 UTs with the participation of 330 institutes as well as awareness programmes for school students.

● BioNESTincubator, launched by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) with a vision to foster the biotech innovation ecosystem in the country, got its tenure extended till 31st December 2024.Some of the start-ups incubated at Bio-NEST have reached above TRL 4-5 and some start-ups have achieved TRL-9. One of the incubatee successfully completed a few international projects in the financial year 2022-23 resulting in a revenue of approximately ₹7.00 crore.

● To promote entrepreneurship and start up culture to realise Atmanirbhar Bharat dream of our Prime Minister, Panjab University has established five incubation facilities, in Engineering Sciences,Physical sciences, Chemical sciences, Bio sciences and Pharmaceutical sciences with RUSA grant. Innovative ideas of students have been awarded upto₹5.00 lakh as seed money for developing prototypes.

● Panjab University has taken initiatives for implementation of NEP 2020 from academic session 2023-24. Several measures have been initiated such as introducing Value Added Courses VACs, Skill Enhancement Courses SECs and Indian Knowledge System,registering PU for Academic Bank of Credits ABC andadopting four years U.G. Framework given by UGC.
