In the past two years, Uttarakhand has achieved a historic milestone in the field of cinema, as two films named 'Sunpat' and 'Patal-Tee' won the prestigious 'Indian Panorama' award at the International Film Festival of India.

This achievement has showcased Uttarakhand on the global platform and opened new possibilities for the state's film industry. To celebrate this accomplishment, Maulyaar Films has organized special screenings of both films, 'Sunpat' and 'Patal-Tee,' for the general public at Tagore Theater, Sector-18, under the ANUBHUTI UTTARAKHAND- CINEMASCOOP program.

The screenings will take place on June 10 at 5 PM and 8 PM, and tickets will be priced at Rs 299 and Rs 499. The producers of these films are showcasing them in Chandigarh for the first time, with a creative passion, aiming to provide the audience with a community experience of Uttarakhand cinema on the big screen.

During a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club , program manager Ms. Jaya Sharma provided details about the films. She mentioned that both films were shot in remote villages of Uttarakhand. Local people from these villages have acted in the films, and their performances have astonished film critics at various film festivals. Last year, during the first public screening held in Delhi, the audience honored them with a standing ovation.

“We aim to draw attention from around the world. Uttarakhand, being a popular tourist destination, is often associated only with its scenic beauty and touristic attractions. However, the real Uttarakhand remains hidden from the eyes of visitors. Through these films, we strive to showcase the true essence of our culture and society, enabling people to gain a deeper understanding of the rich tapestry that Uttarakhand represents”, says Santosh Rawat, the director of Pataal-Tee.

These films also hold a special significance for those who have migrated away from their ancestral villages, enabling them to reconnect with their roots and gain a deeper understanding of the society they left behind many years ago. Through the power of storytelling, these films bridge the geographical and emotional gaps, evoking nostalgia and rekindling a sense of belonging among the diaspora, and foster a sense of pride, cultural preservation, and social dialogue.

At various international film festivals, foreign audiences have been astounded by the authentic representation of the Himalayan region in these films. This also attracted the attention and collaboration of renowned film professionals, including an Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, who designed the sound of Pataal-Tee. The films' quality and vision have convinced these industry veterans to contribute their expertise, elevating the artistic and technical aspects of the productions to new heights.

With a spirit of resilience and creative passion, these filmmakers are screening the films in Chandigarh for the first time, to offer large screen community cinema experience for the people. “The larger goal is to approach and attract the Uttarakhand community people and cinema lovers towards Uttarakhand cinema who can contribute to the creation of a vibrant film market. This, in turn, attracts more filmmakers, encourages local talent, and promotes the growth of the film industry, leading to a flourishing cinema culture in the state. This will ultimately help in cultural preservation, representation and identity, tourism promotion, social awareness, community engagement, and economic and wholistic growth of the state”, says Rahul Rawat, the director of Sunpat and creator of Anubhuti Uttarakhand event.

We call upon the community of Uttarakhand and cinema lovers, to come forward in large numbers and rally behind the creative talents emerging from Uttarakhand.
