HEAT WAVE ACTION PLAN MEETING HELD : SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED UPON WEATHER ASSESSMENT WITHIN TWO THREE DAYS

A meeting on Heat Wave Action Plan (HAP) was held under the Chairmanship of Advisor to the Administrator on Tuesday with all concerned Departments of Chandigarh Administration.

In the said meeting, Shri Nitin Yadav, Home Secretary; Shri Anindita Mitra, Commisioner, Municipal Corporation, Shri Yashpal Garg, Health Secretary, Shri Vinod Kavle, Secretary, Labour, Shri Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Shri Arul Rajan, DCF, Ms Manisha Choudhary, SSP (Traffic & Security), Shri Amit Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shri Harsuhinder Brar, Director (Education), Shri CB Ojha, Chief Engineer, Shri Jaswinder Singh, DSP (Traffic) were present. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) briefed about the action plan to handle the heat wave and role of various departments such as Municipal Corporation, Engineering Department, Health Department, Education Department, Social Welfare Department, Labour Department, Animal Husbandry Department, Forest Department and Public Relation Department etc.

He further informed that the detailed Advisory on Heat Wave has been circulated to the departments along with Do’s and Don’ts. The concerned departments shared the Heat Wave Action Plans for the preparedness of expected Heat Wave and the action taken till date. Home Secretary informed that drinking water, adequate stock of ORS and first-aid kits will be made available in all Anganwaris and Child Care Institutes and training will be imparted for Heat Wave Management to Supervisors and Anganwari Workers.

Health Secretary briefed that they have adequate stock of ORS, Glucose & Medicines. They have issued Heat Wave Advisory on regular basis to general public and volunteers are sent in villages for awareness.

All facilities are available in hospitals for treatment of patients of heat stroke. Chief Engineer informed that repairs and maintenance of Electricity Distribution System has been carried out to ensure uninterrupted power supply during summer season. Provision of drinking water and shades have been made in parks being maintained by Engineering Department and civil construction works will be done during early morning & night hours.

The Secretary, Animal Husbandry informed that adequate veterinary medicines and drinking water will be ensured in all the Veterinary Institutions. Commissioner, Municipal Corporation briefed that electric motors, pumps, water supply lines and valves have been checked and all defective electrical/mechanical parts have been replaced to ensure regular water supply during summer months. All main parks/gardens have been provided with drinking water facility.

The Labour Commissioner informed that factories and construction sites have been directed that labourers will not be engaged in work during peak hours in open Sun and drinking water & sheds will be made available at all work places. Director (Education) informed that all government schools have been closed and most private schools will be closed for summer holiday in this week and few schools will be closed in first week of June.

The weather condition will be assessed in next 2-3 days and necessary directions on closure of schools will be issued accordingly.

The Disaster Help Line Toll Free No. “1070” and Medical Helpline No. “1075” (Toll free) are functioning 24x7 for general public affected by Heat Wave. It is appealed to public that advisory of heat wave in the form of Do’s and Don’ts to be followed strictly to protect themselves from heat wave, dehydration, heat stroke etc. and in case of any emergency, they may call to Help Line No. or rush to nearest hospital/dispensary immedietely.
