‘SNOW MARATHON LAHAUL’ INVITES CITY MARATHONERS TO THE WORLD'S HIGHEST MARATHON AT SISSU (HP) ON MARCH 10.

After the success of the first and second edition of Snow Marathon, this year's third Snow Marathon will be organized on March 10 at Sissu (Lahaul and Spiti). This world prestigious snow marathon is being organized by Reach India in association with Himachal Tourism and District Administration.

  The key organizer Rajiv Kumar informed that Snow Marathon Lahaul has the distinction of being the only snow marathon in Asia and the highest in the world. Likewise every year, the marathon is being organized at Sissu, at the North Portal end of the Atal Tunnel, located at an altitude of nearly 10,000 feet near Manali wherein athletes and marathoners from every corner of the country are participating. This marathon is being organized in four categories - 42 kilometer full marathon, 21 kilometer half marathon, ten kilometer and five kilometer.

Ravi Thakur, MLA, Lahaul and Spiti in his message had expressed hope that the mesmerizing beauty of Lahul and the heartwarming hospitality of locals will live up to the expectations of participants". Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar (IAS), administration will leave no stone unturned in their support so that this marathon comes on the world map of adventure sports.

Fun runs are also being organized to encourage local participation. Rajiv said that apart from athletes, defence personnel, especially Navy and Army, are participating enthusiastically this year like every year. So far, 25 sailors have confirmed participation in this event. Apart from that, ten foreign marathoners are also participating in this edition. The event is supported by Campus Shoes (Running Partner), Fast & Up as Nutrition Partner, Bonn as Energy Partner, Youngear & Gokyo as Awards Partner.

Conservationist Gaurav Schimer who is part of the organizing team said that along with the Administration and Tourism Department, this event is also recognized by the Fit India Movement of the Govt of India. He said that the safety of the athletes participating in such a high and cold sports venue is the biggest priority. To avoid any untoward incident, the medical team of Fortis Hospital, Mohali will remain on their toes during the event. Two advanced life support ambulances and a team of paramedics and doctors will provide all medical assistance during the marathon. 

Rajesh Chand, Head - Event Execution said that they are facing widespread challenges due to the devastation caused by the last monsoon. An alternative marathon route has been prepared in the absence of a bridge that was washed away in the flood.

Dr Arun Kochar, Department of Cardiology, Fortis Hospital said that he is extremely excited to be associated with such an event of repute which has set a record in itself and has brought HP on the world map. Speaking on High Altitude Sickness, Dr. Ritesh Khokar said that to deal with this situation, athletes should wear protective gear so that the unpleasant incident can be dealt with.
