CBI COURT BOMBAY SENTENCES FERTILIZER INSPECTOR, TO RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT OF THREE YEARS’ ALONGWITH FINE

Mumbai The Special Judge, CBI cases Mumbai has today sentenced Shri Pramod Kumar Mahour, the then Fertilizer Inspector, Central Fertilizer Control and Training Institute, Faridabad to three years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 5,000/- in a bribery case.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the instant case on 25.02.2017 on the allegations that the accused demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 2,00,000/- from the complainant for having passed the sample of consignment of Bentonite Sulpher imported by M/s. Bharat Chemicals Industries, Meerut from M/s. Sohar Sulpher Fertilizer LLC, Sohar, Oman for the period from October 2016 to February 2017.

It was alleged that the accused directed the complainant to deposit bribe amount in his account as well as in the account of his brother-in-law. It was also alleged that the complainant deposited an amount of Rs.7,500/- in the account of the accused and Rs.16,000/- in the account of his brother-in-law. During investigation, it was revealed that the accused had confirmed receipt of the bribe money. After investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 02.08.2017. Thereafter, charges were framed on 09.02.2021.

The Court found the accused guilty and accordingly sentenced him. Though the complainant died before giving evidence before the Hon’ble Court, the prosecution succeeded in proving charges through circumstantial evidence. CBI cited 24 witnesses in support of the charges which stood test of trial in the Court.
