10TH 'VIRSA SAMBHAL' HOLA-MAHALLA GATKA CUP SET TO THRILL AT SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB - GREWAL

The stage is set for the 10th edition of the 'Virsa Sambhal' Hola-Mahalla Gatka Cup, scheduled to take place at Sri Anandpur Sahib on March 25, 2024, from 3 pm to 10 pm. Organised by the International Sikh Martial Art Council in collaboration with the International Sikh Martial Art Academy (ISMAA), this prestigious event promises a captivating showcase of martial skills by Gatkabaaz from renowned Gatka Akharas.

Announcing the details, Chairman of the International Sikh Martial Art Council (ISMAC) and Joint Director of Public Relations Department, Punjab, Harjeet Singh Grewal, emphasised the inclusive nature of the competition and said boys and girls would participate in Sikh martial art demonstrations and Gatka competitions, while Gatka Soti-Fari individual contests would add an extra dimension to the martial art games.

Grewal, a recipient of State award and President of the National Gatka Association of India, highlighted that winning players would receive special felicitation, and certificates would also be presented to all Gatka participants by the ISMAC.

He emphasized that the goal behind organizing the Gatka competitions is to enhance the visibility, promotion, and preservation of the traditional Sikh martial art, which was bestowed by the revered Guru sahibaan. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of raising awareness within society about its rich heritage. Stressing the significance of maintaining a healthy and fit society, he noted that this ancient art form serves as a deterrent against narcotics, drugs, and social ills.

He remarked that Gatka fosters active lifestyles, agility, and robust health among its practitioners, while also instilling values of sportsmanship, tolerance for both victory and defeat, and fostering a spirit of healthy competition.
