WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY CELEBRATED IN ABOHAR

On the occasion of "World Press Freedom Day", a seminar was organized at Adharshila Play-Way Convent School on Saturday. Colonel (Retd) SPR Gaba and Rajiv Godara were the chief guests. Senior journalist Raj Sadosh was the keynote speaker. The seminar was presided over by Journalist Association President Tejinder Singh Khalsa and School Principal Dr. Rajeev Gupta.

Colonel Gaba said that the day underlines the importance of a free press for a healthy and functioning democracy. Freedom of the press is also essential for the right to information, which the United Nations has declared a fundamental right. Press is a general term that includes both print and electronic media.

Godara said that the media is the fourth pillar of democracy which shows the mirror to the society and journalists provide new information to the people in difficult times.

Sadosh cautioned that the media-persons should not follow the footprints of politicians in misusing freedom of expression. Press should sincerely reflect and shape public opinion.

Gupta said that the journalist community rendered its valuable services during the Corona period risking their lives. They are the real heroes of society.

Khalsa expressed special gratitude to the school principal Dr. Rajeev Gupta and his staff for organizing this wonderful event. Students actively participated in the Quiz and were rewarded.

The stage was impressively conducted by Shubham and Amit Goyal. Sonika, Komal, Rupinder, Shalu Bathla, Priyanka, Renu etc. contributed in organising the event.
