The National Statistical Office (NSO), Regional Office Mohali successfully organized a State Level Statistics Quiz Competition titled "Anvesha 2.0" on Friday, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS).
The competition focused on enhancing awareness about the Indian economy, statistical systems, national surveys, and data-driven policies. It aimed to provide students with a basic understanding of the role of statistics in governance and policy-making.
The event took place at Hotel Candy, RO Mohali, where 23 teams from various colleges and universities across Punjab participated with great enthusiasm and preparedness.
The winners of the competition were Vanshika Sharma and Jatin from Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, who secured the first place. The second place was bagged by Priya Manhas and Karmanya Kaur from Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, while Bharat Swamy and Om Sood from Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh secured the third place.
The event was graced by the presence of Shri Himmat Singh Raghav, Deputy Director General; Shri Vikas Rundala, Assistant Director; Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Senior Statistical Officer and Head of Department; Shri M.P. Singh, Senior Statistical Officer; Mrs. Usha Verma, Senior Statistical Officer and Nodal Officer
These dignitaries awarded prizes to the winners and presented participation certificates to all attendees. The officers and staff of NSO, Regional Office Mohali contributed significantly to the seamless design, planning, and execution of the event, ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the competition.
The quiz not only tested the participants’ knowledge but also gave them valuable insights into the functioning and significance of statistics in national development.
