Tributes were paid to veteran freedom fighter Chandi Ram Verma in a program organized at Swami Keshwanand Sahitya Sadan on his death anniversary.
Prayers were also offered for the protection of flood victims and for the peace of the souls of those who died due to natural calamity.
Mayor Vimal Thatai said that Abohar is proud of freedom fighters like Verma ji. It is because of such great men that we are breathing in free India today. In the present circumstances, it is even more important that we consider the country supreme and discharge our duties along with our rights.
Arya Samaj priest Krishna Kant Purohit conducted Havan Yajna in the presence of late Verma ji's grandsons Sanjeev Verma and Pawan Verma, great grandson Siddhant Verma, great granddaughter Nainika Verma, Sahitya Sadan president Suryakant Rinwa, SKN Ayurvedic Hospital in-charge Dr. Sandeep Watts, educationist Saroj Nagpal and others.

Lekhak Parishad president Raj Sadosh said that Verma ji was appointed provincial in-charge of Tilak Swaraj Fund by Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai at a public meeting in Abohar. Swami Keshwanand especially chose Hazari Lal Rinwa and Verma ji to serve as president and secretary of the Sahitya Sadan on merit. Anurag Nagpal thanked the gathering.
