On the first day of Child Rights Week, a public awareness program was organized at Kids Valley Convent School in Purani Abadi regarding child rights, child protection, and the prevention of child marriage in Sriganganagar.
Under the directions of District Collector Dr. Manju and in compliance with the instructions of the Assistant Director of the District Child Protection Unit, Renu Khairwa, public awareness programs are being organized continuously regarding child rights and the prevention of child marriage.
Speaking at a function on Friday, Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik said, "Decorate the dreams of children, do not get them married as children." It is a legal crime to marry a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 years of age. To stop child marriage, the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 has been enacted, under which the punishment can be up to 2 years of imprisonment or a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both.
