Suspended Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the FIR registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In his petition, Bhullar has termed the FIR illegal and sought its quashing.

The CBI had arrested Bhullar in connection with allegations of accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh from a businessman in Mandi Gobindgarh. During the investigation, the agency also arrested an alleged middleman, identified as Krishnu.

Following searches conducted at Bhullar’s residence, the CBI claimed to have recovered cash amounting to approximately ₹7.5 crore, along with 2.5 crores gold and silver jewellery and liquor.

Earlier, Bhullar had filed a petition before the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the CBI action. However, after no relief was granted, he moved the Supreme Court. Bhullar has contended that the CBI carried out its operation in Mohali without obtaining prior approval from the Punjab government.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had dismissed the petition, observing that the recovery was made in Chandigarh and therefore the CBI’s action could not be termed illegal.
