PROGRAMME ORGANISED TO BRING AWARENESS AGAINST CHILD MARRIAGES

On the directions of District Collector Dr. Manju, a public awareness program was organized by the Child Empowerment Department, Sriganganagar in Government Higher Secondary School, Burjwali. 

Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik said that "Decorate the dreams of children, do not force them into child marriage". Marrying a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 years of age is a legal offence. To stop child marriage, Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 is a law, in which the punishment can be imprisonment up to 2 years or a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both. 

Renu Khairwa, Assistant Director of the Child Empowerment Department, said that the parents, priests, relatives, tent owner, confectioner involved in such marriages are all criminals. Kaushik also discussed children's rights and encouraged them to be conscious about child rights. Child Welfare Committee Member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma gave the message to root out the social evil of child marriage. 

Affidavits were filled by the team and an appeal was made through signature campaign to cooperate with the administration in ending the evil practice like child marriage. Child Welfare Committee member Vandana Gaur, Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Gurcharan Singh Rupana, Karan Dhawan from Dalsa, Kulwinder Singh of Nirvair Sanstha were present.
