In a strong blow against women's safety and crimes against women, the Fast Track Special Court in Panchkula has delivered a landmark judgment. The court of Honorable Additional Sessions Judge Manish Dua convicted two real brothers for raping two minor sisters after luring them with the promise of marriage and sentenced them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on each of the convicts, which, if not paid, will result in additional imprisonment.

This sensitive case dates back to 2021, when a person from the Pinjore police station area filed a complaint with the police. According to the complainant, on July 23, 2021, two real brothers (aged 20 and 19 at the time) from a family residing in Panchkula abducted his 16 and 14-year-old daughters after luring them away. The police took immediate action and registered a case on July 24 under Sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code.

Considering the seriousness of the case, an investigation team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Pooja. The police acted swiftly and arrested both the accused on July 30, 2021. During the intensive investigation and medical examination, the shocking fact came to light that the accused had taken both sisters to Bihar after luring them with the promise of marriage, where they were raped. Based on strong evidence, Section 6 of the POCSO Act was added to the case.

DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta's strong message: Women's safety is paramount

Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta lauded the effective police investigation and the judiciary's decision. Elaborating on her statement, she said: "This verdict is a strong lesson for those anti-social elements in society who target women and innocent children. Since this case involved a heinous crime against a woman, our priority was to gather scientific evidence and strong witness testimonies. The investigating officer presented all the facts forcefully before the court, thanks to which the accused have received a harsh punishment for their actions today."

DCP Gupta further clarified that the Panchkula Police's message is crystal clear: any crime against women will not be tolerated in the district. The police are not only committed to putting the accused behind bars but will also ensure that such criminals receive the maximum and strictest possible punishment under the law in the future to create a safe society.
