Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sometime ago, launched a campaign " Beti Padao Beti Bachao ", which was well received by all States except Punjab.

Merely launching the campaign won't do, there should also be a panel to oversee its effective functioning. One such incident took place recently in Gillco Heights,

What's the use of such a campaign which can't be implemented fully? A bunch of residents, who claimed to form a self-made committee of their own, caught her with a boy, who is her cousin brother conversing about their future. They were instantly banned entry to Gillco Heights. The girl lost her English tuition, as well as earning her livelihood working as a maid in some houses.

Gillco Valley, Greater Mohali, Punjab. One of the maids was banned from entering Gillco Heights in Kharar district on some pretext. The said girl was taking English tuition from one of the ladies in the same place. However, after the ban, she could not study the language.

The Beti Padao Beti Bachao, campaign became "Beti Padao Beti ban karo" from tuition. It's surprising to note that, when complained to SHO, Kharar, he also banned the girl's entry into Gillco Heights, without doing proper investigation. Has anyone bothered about her career?

The Punjab government should take severe action against those who want to spoil PM's wonderful campaign.                  (Mr. Arun Sharma is a senior journalist and was associated with Times of India)
