COORDINATION AMONG DEPARTMENTS IS VITAL IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SCHEMES BY THE MINISTRY: SMRITI IRANI, MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT HOLDS ZONAL CONFERENCE IN CHANDIGARH WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF SENSITIZING STATE GOVERNMENTS/UT ADMINISTRATIONS ON THE THREE UMBRELLA MISSIONS

Poshan tracker with its large sample size helps in improving the quality of the assessment and is an effective tool in monitoring the Women and Child Development schemes. The Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Smriti Irani said this during the inaugural session of the Zonal Conference organized today with states & stakeholders in Chandigarh.
During the session, she requested the stakeholders to use 'Mission Shakti' Scheme implementation Guidelines in their assessment. Stating Women & Child Development as an important pillar in the Governance structure, the minister said coordination among departments is vital in the implementation of the schemes by the ministry.
The Zonal Conference was organised with the objective of sensitizing State Governments/ UT Administrations on the three Umbrella Missions i.e. Mission Poshan 2.0, Mission Shakti and Mission Vatsalya of the Ministry to facilitate proper implementation of the Schemes over the next 5 years in the true spirit of cooperative federalism to ensure that the transformational social changes envisaged under the Missions is accomplished for the benefit of women and children of the country.
Smt. Aditi Das Rout, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development gave a detailed presentation on Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0 during the Conference.
Shri Dhrijesh Kumar Tiwari, statistical advisor from the Ministry of Women and Child briefed the participants about the salient features of Mission Shakti. He said the Ministry will put in place a comprehensive portal for Mission Shakti which would require timely feeding and updation of data on the portal. Ms. Irani informed that the prime motive of the Ministry of Women and Child Development is to address gaps in State action for women & children and to promote inter-ministerial and inter-sectoral convergence to create gender equitable and child centred legislation, policies and programs. She added that Union Cabinet has approved 3 important Umbrella Schemes of the Ministry to be implemented in mission mode, viz., Mission Poshan 2.0, Mission Shakti and Mission Vatsalya.
Smt. Indra Malli, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development highlighted the basic features of Mission Vatsalya and briefed the participants about the recent amendments in the Juvenile Justice Act.
The representatives from the Departments of Women and Child Development from the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand and Union Territories of Chandigarh, J&K, Ladakh & Delhi and other organizations expressed their views on various schemes related to Women and Child Development during the consultation session with the states/Union Territories.
The Ministry will also be holding Zonal Conferences with States/UTs in Bengaluru (4th April), Guwahati (10th April), Mumbai (12th April) and Bhubaneswar (13th April).
Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur on Saturday said that proper implementation of central sponsored programs is must to achieve the target to empower women and children of the country.
Speaking on the ocassion of Zonal Conference organised by Union Government with nine States/UTs including Punjab, Dr. Baljit kaur said that Women and Children needed equal opportunities in every sectors and Education can play a vanguard role to empower these sections of the society. She said that violence and injustices are the core concern areas which created hindrances in holistic development. She suggested that the central policies should be designed to remove all the social barriers creating obstacles to overall development of women and children.
Presiding over the conference, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Ms. Smriti Irani said that the objective of this initiative is to empower and protect of women and children who constitute 67.7% of India’s population. She said that ensuring holistic development of women and children in a safe and secure environment is crucial for sustainable and equitable development of the country and for achieving transformational economic and social changes.
