JIMPA ANNOUNCES RS. 5 LAKH GRANT TO CHHOTA GHALLUGHARA MARTYRDOM MEMORIAL, KAHNUWAN

A special martyrdom ceremony dedicated to the martyrdom of about 11 thousand Singhs and children, who were martyred in Chhota Ghallughara in 1746, was organized by the District Heritage Society Gurdaspur today at Chhota Ghallughara Martyrdom Memorial, Kahnuwan Chhamb. Revenue Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa paid obeisance to the martyrs on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Complying to the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Jimpa announced a grant of Rs.5 lakh from his discretionary quota to the Chhota Ghallughara Martyrdom Memorial. Apart from this, he also assured to approve sewerage and other development projects of Kahnuwan, Tibar and Tugalwal villages, soon. He also praised the district administration for maintaining the Chhota Ghallughara Martyrdom Memorial in a good manner.(SUBHEAD)

Paying tribute to the martyrs of Chhota Ghallughara, Jimpa said that we all should be proud of the Sikh history of the 18th century, which is full of the sacrifices. He said that the brave warriors sacrificed themselves for the sake of humanity, but they did not accept the cruel Mughal rule at all. Jimpa said that it is our duty to remember our martyrs and it is a commendable initiative of the District Heritage Society to pay homage to the martyrs of Chhote Ghallughara by organizing a special martyrdom ceremony.

District Planning Committee Chairman Jagroop Singh Sekhwaan said that this martyrdom monument is dedicated to the great martyrs of Chhota Ghallughara and through this monument the young generation is getting to know their history which is full of sacrifices. Punjab Health Systems Corporation Chairman Raman Bahl also paid tribute to the martyrs.

On this occasion, Bram Shanker Jimpa and other prominent personalities also visited the Martyr Gallery, Fateh Burz and Library of the Museum dedicated to the martyrs of Ghallughara. Jimpa also watched a documentary film made on Chhote Ghallughara. Earlier, path of Sri Sukhmani Sahib and hymns were also recited in memory of the great martyrs.

During the event, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, SSP Harish Dayma, General Secretary of District Heritage Society and former ADC Tajinderpal Singh Sandhu, district officers and a large number of people were present.
