51-year-old Anu Garg, returning to her home in Chandigarh after gaining lifetime experiences in India and overseas, released her first book 'Free Fifties' at Chandigarh Press Club, Sector 27 on Tuesday.
From reciting poetry to her father as a child, winning various poetry competitions in her college times, putting her management career on the line to raise her children, and even venturing into journalism to cherish her dream of meeting cine star Shah Rukh Khan, Anu Garg has made splendid efforts to collate her experiences in her maiden book - Free Fifties.
The book reflects the journey of self-healing, self-reflection and self-love for women who have surpassed their threshold of fifty years.
As a poetess, Anu Garg always kept her passion for travelling and photography alive. A ‘digital nomad’, who has had some of her best conversations with herself while sitting on a beach, exploring life on a scooter in the alleys of old towns, sharing sunsets & life experiences with locals. “This was my journey to rediscover myself.’ feels Anu. Along with emoting with words, the author also advocates mental health, hence initiating a campaign of its kind - TAP (Take A Pause) which she started during the COVID times. This campaign drives workshops across the country on mental health for women, youth and senior citizens. The book Free Fifties is also designed and written like a self-help book that includes exercises to compel and inspire the readers to pause and self-reflect. Every reader is also entitled to a #freefifties workshop to take them through the journey of self-love and healing.
The book Free Fifties is a wonderful collection of poems, prose, and guided exercises to help readers embark on a deeper journey of healing and empowerment. It inspires the readers to take a pause, reflect, prioritize their happiness, and live the life they want. She emphasizes revisiting the pivotal moments, to celebrate and learn from them.
One needs to shed the burden of regrets and guilt that dominate your mind and find forgiveness within. Based on her experiences, Anu strongly advocates that self-worth is the key to self-love. “If you want to receive love and respect from others, you need to love and respect yourself first. When you build your self-worth on a foundation of self-love and acceptance, you free yourself from the need to constantly prove your worth,” says Anu
When asked what inspired her to write a book, Anu emotionally expressed that after scoring half a century of her life, there came a moment when the woman inside her woke up and started questioning who she is. What were her achievements and her upcoming goals? This self-introspection resulted in some deep conversations with herself resulting in this beautiful compilation - Free Fifties “Writing this book has been a process of self-reflection, a cathartic journey of finding and forgiving myself and loving myself again.” said Anu
