Municipal Corporation Mayor Vimal Thatai flagged off an awareness rally “Swachhta Hi Sewa”on Sunday under the Indian Swachhta League programme.

The rally started from Nehru Park and passed through Circular Road, Agrasen Chowk, Jain Chowk, Railway Road, Gaushala Road and ended at Nehru Park itself. No plastic of any kind was used in this rally and it was also given the name of “Zero Waste Event”.

Thatai said that it is our duty to keep our city clean. Only if the surroundings are clean, we will be free from diseases and stay healthy. He said that wet and dry waste from the house should be put in the tippers separately and there should be no use of plastic. He said that various activities related to cleanliness will be drawn up by the corporation within the fortnight to be observed for cleanliness till October 2.

Students of different schools, NSS volunteers, NCC scouts, NGOs members, self-help groupsand MC staff participated in the rally.

School children made the people aware of the negative effects of plastic through various activities including slogans related to cleanliness.
