Chandigarh Gladiators scripted yet another huge win as they came back from a reverse in their last match to beat the Sultans of Swing with a near perfect 6.5-0.5 score on the sixth day of Havells Lloyd CGL 2023 being played here at the Chandigarh Golf Club. This victory comes after they became the first team to record a 7-0 win in CGL history in their opening match.
On an otherwise tight day of matches, Partee Panthers pipped the Punjab Aces 4-3 with The Mulligans doing the same in their match against the Moksha Royals. Tee Birds could not capitalize on an early lead and close out a win as the Green Gators mounted a fightback to square the match 3.5-3.5 late in the day.
The Gladiators started on the front foot after reverting to their successful pairings from the first match. Shiraz Monga & skipper Saurabh Singh Mangat showed the way in the singles games and the rest of the team did not disappoint. After Saurabh closed out a 6&4 win, two pairs won by 3 holes up and the same number won by 2 holes up. The biggest of them all was the anchor game where Bikramjit Singh Bhinder & Hanima Grewal won 3&2. The Sultans skipper Tarun Lehal partnering his dad Gurjit Lehal salvaged half a point after making an impressive comeback from being 3 down at the turn. With this win, the Gladiators climb back to the top of the leaderboard with three matches played.
Partee Panthers continued their winning streak with a gutsy win against the Punjab Aces who had a couple of key players missing. Mivaan Singh led from the front for the Aces as he closed out a 5&3 win while Bhavkaran Singh got back a point with a 5&4 win of his own in the singles games. The big result came in the anchor game where Pratap Atwal combined with Atul Sehgal to card a huge 6&5 win and turn the tie towards the Panthers.
The Mulligans, also remain unbeaten after closing out a hard fought 4-3 win against the Moksha Royals. The Royals began won both the singles games 1 Up as Sandeep Singh Sandhu & Kuldip Singh went toe to toe with their opponents and needed to pull out everything in their reserves to get two points on the board. The Mulligans won four of the five fourball games with Amrinder Singh and Jaskeerat Matharoo leading the way and carding a 5&4 win in their game. Skipper Gauhar Pruthi and Ashwinder Singh also posted a 4&3 win to safeguard the win for their team.
Tee Birds & Green Gators fought a see-saw battle which saw the Tee Birds take an early lead. Green Gators skipper Kunal Nandwani’s singles game was never really in doubt as he won 2&1 to put an early point on the board while Ravinder Singh Cheema of Tee Birds & RS Bedi of Green Gators played out a halved game. The only other win for the Gators came in the anchor game while Tee Birds won two fourball games and two games ending all square.
