For the first time in Abohar, a play based on Anton Chekhov's stories was staged. Originally written in Russian between 1895–99, the English versions of these stories were first staged by the renowned US playwright and director Neil Simon in New York in 1973–74. There were 208 stagings of the stories continuously for one year.
SSP said that it was amazing that such a unique creation has been successfully staged in a small town like Abohar.
The credit for this goes to Dr. Gaurav Vij, director of Sparsh, who has made a remarkable contribution in the field of theatre in the last 25 years. He not only staged hundreds of plays brilliantly but also gave many artists to the region
