BUREAU SEIZES RS. 3.5 LAKH FROM THE CAR OF SUPERINTENDENT OF THE GST OFFICE, THE DEMAND FOR BRIBERY WAS BEING MADE TO REDUCE THE GST PENALTY FOR THE COMPLAINANT

A team of the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two accused late evening from Panipat district on charges of accepting bribes. One of the accused, Pankaj Khurana, a private chartered accountant, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs. 7 lakh, while the bureau had seized Rs. 3.5 lakh from the car of Superintendent, Prem Raj Rana, who works at the GST office in Panipat. Both accused are being investigated by the ACB.
Sharing more details in this regard a spokesperson of the Bureau said that the Bureau's team received information that the Superintendent and the chartered accountant (private) were demanding a bribe of Rs. 12 lakh to reduce the GST penalties. An investigation is underway, collecting all necessary evidence in this case. In this case, the accused has been arrested and the case has been registered at the Karnal Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station, said the spokesperson.
The ACB has appealed to the general public that if any officer or employee demands a bribe in lieu of doing any work, then they should immediately inform the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau and call on toll-free numbers - 1800-180-2022 and 1064.
