SEVERAL TRAINS AFFECTED DUE TO FARMERS PROTEST

Despite having tough times due to farmer’s agitation at Shambhu border, the Ferozepur Railway Division has been managing to run freight trains while using alternative routes.

When contacted, Paramdeep Singh Saini, Sr DCM said that that the railways was using alternative routes for the freight trains. He said that the charges are reconciled by the account team by comparing the rational route (also called Rates Branch System (RBS) route) which is the original route booked by the freight customer.

“Whenever a railway route is blocked, the management checks the best possible alternative route for the freight trains”, he further added.

Meanwhile overall 112 trains were affected today in this division due to the farmers protest. As per data, out of these 112 trains, 44 trains got cancelled, 62 trains were diverted, 3 short terminated while 3 had to be short originated.

The Railways had to suffer huge financial loss also due to these ongoing protests. As per information, the railway division has reimbursed an amount of Rs 20.12 Lakh to 3821 passengers from April 17-20.
