The BJP today asserted that the party’s Lok Sabha nominee Sanjay Tandon has had a long innings in politics and political management.

In a statement here, Ravinder Pathania, UT BJP leader and former media incharge of the party, ridiculed Congress candidate Manish Tewari for describing Tandon as a political novice and said that his unsavoury and uncalled for comments about Tandon ignore the fact that Tandon has a long political experience and standing in the BJP.

Tandon has been born into a prominent political family of Punjab and as such, has been associated with electoral politics right from his childhood. He has successfully managed numerous election campaigns of his father, Balramji Dass Tandon, former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, at Amritsar and Rajpura. He has headed the Chandigarh Unit of BJP for 10 long years during which the party struck deep roots in the City Beautiful.

During his stint as the party chief, he successfully managed the electoral campaign of outgoing party MP, Kirron Kher as also that of party councilors of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

(SUBHEAD)It is in recognition of his services to the party and Chandigarh that the BJP High Command has decided to field for the Lok Sabha poll in UT. Therefore, to call him a political novice is stretching it too far.

On the other hand, Pathania said, it is Tewari who is a habitual halqa-hopper and is attuned to abandoning his constituencies at the first sign of trouble. This is what he did in Ludhiana in 2014 when, fed up with his habit of making himself inaccessible, irate residents gheraoed his residence and pelted it with stones. He got so scared that he feigned sickness and got himself admitted to a hospital in Delhi to avoid re-contesting from Ludhiana. In 2019, he shifted to Sri Anandpur Sahib. This time, he has landed in Chandigarh but the wise people of the City Beautiful are ready to teach him a lesson.
