Election officials are quietly but effectively resorting to novel measures to sensitise voters on the need to exercise their franchise without fail.

Besides holding street plays, painting competitions and other awareness programmes, they now seek to spread the message under Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) through consumables and essential commodities.

An LPG gas cylinder will now not only heat your cooking stove but also send you a message to vote on June 1. Under the SVEEP programme, a new initiative has been taken in Fazilka district under which voter awareness stickers are being pasted on gas cylinders.

District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Senu Duggal said that the initiative is expected to boost participation in the polling and every eligible voter.

She said that the SVEEP teams in the four assembly constituencies of the district are making people aware by doing different activities. In the same series, a campaign has now been started to install voter awareness stickers on gas cylinders as well.

Apart from this, such stickers have also been installed on buses and people are being made aware by installing such stickers at offices or other important places.
