VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS ESIC HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE, PRIVATE PERSON ACCEPTING RS 25000 BRIBE

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Wednesday, has arrested Sukhbir Singh, posted in ESIC Hospital, Ludhiana and his accomplice Navneet Kumar, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, Ludhiana for accepting a bribe of Rs 25000.

 Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the accused have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Dinesh Kumar, a resident of village Fullanwal, Ludhiana district.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that he has came to know that posts of Laboratory Technician on contract basis were to be filled in ESIC hospital, Bharat Nagar Chowk Ludhiana. In this regard he met Sukhbir Singh of HR Branch of ESIC hospital who asked him to send his educational qualifications documents on his WhatsApp number. The complainant further informed that after few days an unknown person called him to meet him at Samrala Chowk who told him that above said Sukhbir Singh has demanded Rs 1,10,000 bribe to get job in the hospital. After this Sukhbir Singh also told him to make arrangement of Rs 100000 to get the work done.

The spokesperson further added that after preliminary enquiry of this complaint the VB team laid a trap and the said accused Sukhbir Singh was arrested while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 25000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. Thereafter, an associate of main accused Sukhbir Singh, namely Navneet Kumar, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, Ludhiana was also arrested from Samrala Chowk Ludhiana.

In this regard a case FIR 23 dated 29.05.2024 under section 7, 7A of prevention of corruption act and 120-B of IPC has been registered against both the accused at VB police station Ludhiana range. Both the accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and role of other officials would also be probed during further investigation, he said.
