The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday, arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sanjay Kumar (No 459/SAS Nagar), posted at Police Station City Kharar, in SAS Nagar district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of village Kharar. He further added that the complainant had approached the VB alleging that an FIR had been registered on his complaint at the said Police Station where aforementioned ASI Sanjay Kumar was the Investigating Officer (IO) in his case and he had demanded a bribe of Rs 10000 to issue notices to the opposite party.

The spokesperson further informed that after verification of the complaint the VB team laid a trap during which the said ASI has been arrested while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 8000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
