Addressing a press conference organized at Chandigarh Press Club today, Pratap Singh Rana said that he will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Chandigarh as an independent candidate.

He said that he never wanted to come into active politics, but he decided to go among the people of Chandigarh after being upset with the Chandigarh Administration deliberately delaying the Raipur Kala railway underpass project due to political pressure.

It is mentioned that he held hunger strike several times from 2018 till now to get the underpass constructed, despite this, every time the officials of the Chandigarh Administration played their negative role instead of completing this project soon. He took this decision to teach a lesson to the officials of the Chandigarh Administration and all the political parties of Chandigarh for deliberately delaying a public interest project.

Apart from this, there are many issues in his Sankalp Patra which have not been touched by any political party till date, such as making all the registered resident welfare associations, Safai Karamchari Sangathan, Vyapar Sangathan and the presidents of all the registered units of Chandigarh as nominated councillors, all the employees working on contract basis in Chandigarh Administration and PGI who have completed 240 days of service will be regularized with immediate effect, women of Chandigarh will be given the facility of free travel in CTU buses and BPL families will be given free electricity and water up to 300 units, free e-rickshaws will be given to unemployed youth belonging to BPL families.

He also released a 20-point election manifesto today. Being in touch with Chandigarh for the last 40 years, he has raised the main issues of Chandigarh which have not been touched by any political party till date, such as giving full statehood to Chandigarh. He has pledged to make Chandigarh signal free on priority basis in 5 years. He has promised to save government houses from becoming ruins, to increase business in all the markets of Chandigarh and the biggest announcement he has made is to give ownership rights to all the allottees of Housing Board and State Office of Chandigarh.

He told that he is constantly in touch with the people living in the colonies and villages of Chandigarh and he knows what are the main problems there, he is well aware of many other problems related to amendment in the Periphery Act.

I have entered this electoral battle against the big political parties and the candidates of the capitalists, only with the faith of the people of Chandigarh that this time the people of Chandigarh will create a new history by electing a common man as their MP, not any political party, but keeping in view the local interests of Chandigarh, every voter of Chandigarh will consider it his duty to elect a common man as his MP.
