Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, accompanied by AAP’s Punjab state president Aman Arora and family members filed his nomination papers on Friday as the AAP candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Ludhiana (West) constituency. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora’s son Kavya Arora filed his nomination papers as covering candidate for his father. Kavya was accompanied among others by his mother Sandhya Arora. The election is scheduled for June 19.
Following the filing, MP Arora expressed gratitude to everyone for their overwhelming support. He said that the large turnout at the mega roadshow held earlier in the day was a clear indication of his thumping victory by a significant margin.
The grand roadshow, which started from Aarti Chowk and concluded at Bhai Bala Chowk, was attended by top AAP leaders including the party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, state president Aman Arora and Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi.
MP Arora and other senior leaders were seen riding in an open vehicle, waving to the crowd. The procession halted at a point, where the leaders addressed the public.
In his speech, MP Arora highlighted the work done by him and his party, especially longstanding issues that had been unresolved for over 50 years. As an example, he cited the granting of proprietary rights to residents of Lal Lakir—an issue people had been raising for decades. He vowed to transform Ludhiana into a "model city" if elected, stating that people from across India would look up to Ludhiana as an example to emulate.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann urged the public to vote for MP Arora, saying the enthusiasm witnessed at the roadshow despite the scorching heat was a strong signal of AAP’s likely victory.
