WESTERN COMMAND HQ HOSTS CIVIL-DEFENCE ORIENTATION AND EXPOSURE PROGRAMME FOR PCS, TEHSILDAR TRAINEES

In a significant step towards bolstering Military Civil fusion Chandimandir Military Station hosted 40 PCS / Tehsildar trainees. The orientation cum exposure visit was organized to improve inter-agency coordination under the aegis of Centre for Disaster Management, Govt of Punjab. This was part of a series of orientation visits to Chandimandir Military station, which followed the first two batches conducted for Civil-Defence Volunteers.

The structured visit aimed to enhance the awareness of the trainees about capabilities of Indian Army, procedures for seeking Army’s intervention especially for Disaster Relief and other issues related to welfare of veterans. A special session on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief was undertaken by local officers. Trainees were apprised of the operational framework, rapid response capabilities and inter-agency coordination mechanisms employed by the Armed Forces during Natural calamities and other internal emergencies.

The enthusiastic group of trainees were also exposed to the tales of valour of Western Command in defending the nation against aggressions since1947. Besides the historical perspective, the young blood was also exposed to the various actions undertaken during Op SINDOOR. To give a feel of the capabilities and the technological improvements which have taken place, a special display of modern weaponry and equipment was organized.

During the discussions, held the challenges being faced by serving and ex-servicemen in day-to-day living, implementation of various provisions of the law as well as the schemes of the state were deliberated and views exchanged. The critical role of the local administrative officers got highlighted in ensuring effectiveness of the mechanism to provide the civil face to the veterans and the necessary support in re-integration into the society. The young trainees were also briefed regarding the special provisions applicable to Army personnel.
