Two cities from Haryana have been nationally recognized in the Swachhta Survey 2024–25 conducted under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. In a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu presented the Clean City Award to Karnal, while Sonipat received the Ministerial Star Award for Cleanliness.
Representing the Haryana government, Urban Local Bodies Minister Sh. Vipul Goyal, along with Karnal Mayor Smt. Renu Bala Gupta and Sonipat Mayor Sh.Rajiv Jain, received the awards. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Sh. Manohar Lal was also present at the event.
Following the ceremony, Cabinet Minister Sh. Vipul Goyal reaffirmed the Haryana government’s commitment to cleanliness, stating that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, unprecedented efforts will continue to be made to further advance cleanliness initiatives in the state.
Karnal Ranked Third in Clean City Category
Karnal has secured the third position in the category of cities with a population ranging from 50,000 to 3 lakh in the Swachhta Survey. This achievement reflects the growing awareness and sustained efforts toward cleanliness in the state. Cabinet Minister Sh. Vipul Goyal stated that this award is not just a recognition but marks the beginning of Haryana’s cleanliness revolution.
Sonipat Receives ‘Ministerial Star Award’
Meanwhile, Sonipat was honoured with the ‘Ministerial Star Award’ for cleanliness, presented by Union Minister Sh. Manohar Lal. This award highlights the commitment, effective management, and innovative practices of the Sonipat Municipal Corporation.
Significant improvement in Rankings of Other Haryana Cities
Other cities in Haryana have also shown notable progress in cleanliness rankings. Gurugram, made a remarkable leap from 140th position nationally last year to 41st this year. Within Haryana, Gurugram now ranks 7th. This improvement is attributed to the effective implementation of cleanliness initiatives and awareness campaigns by the state government.
Vision and Commitment of Haryana Government
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sh. Vipul Goyal said, “This award reflects Haryana’s strong participation in Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana is set to establish new benchmarks in cleanliness in the coming years.” He added, “This is just the beginning. Many cities in the state, including Sonipat, will achieve higher rankings in the future. Our goal is not only to eliminate filth but to transform Haryana into a clean, prosperous, and healthy state.”
Health and Prosperity through Cleanliness
Sh. Vipul Goyal said, “Health and prosperity can only be ensured through cleanliness. The award presented to Karnal by the President will serve as a source of motivation for us. It signifies that our state is rapidly progressing toward a cleaner future.”
He reiterated that Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat’ is evolving into ‘Swachh Bharat – Sampoorna Bharat,’ with Haryana at the forefront of this movement. He affirmed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, the Haryana government is fully committed to elevating not just Karnal, but every city in Haryana to the pinnacle of cleanliness.
