Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu has appealed to all to cooperate with the district administration to keep the Kawanwali Pattan safe. She said that if there is any crack in the bundh, there may be a threat of floods to dozens of other villages and even Fazilka city.

The DC said that due to the huge amount of water in Sutlej Creek, the border villages are already facing a serious situation like flood. As per the NDRF, Army and Drainage Department report, there is a lot of pressure on the Protection Bundh of Sutlej Creek and about 90,000 cusecs of water are flowing. To keep the bundh strong, sand is constantly being transported. Seepage has been spotted in some places, which are being constantly repaired.

She said that many people are reaching Kawanwali and other bundhs of Sutlej Creek without any work. The crowd of people and their vehicles block the road, there is a difficulty in transporting sand and heavy machinery to the bundh.

There is only one road to reach the Kawanwali Pattan and if there is additional traffic on it, it becomes difficult to reach the essential materials like JCB and sand to the bundh.

She said, “We respect the spirit of NGOs, but if a large crowd gathered on the Kawanwali road, then there will be obstruction in delivering the sand and thousands of people can be in the grip of floods as well as fields get destroyed. That is why the administration has appealed to the NGOs to limit relief work at the places before the bundh, so that heavy machinery and sand supply is not affected.
