In view of the flood triggered in border villages of Fazilka by huge discharge of water from Ferozepur headwork, the NDRF team deployed in the border villages today saved a child from being swept away in the water.

Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu informed that 16-year-old Sajan of village Teja Ruhela was coming from Maujam village towards his village but got stuck in deep water on the way.

He made a noise and people working on the nearby embankment tried to save him. But two more people who went to save him also got stuck. Immediately after which the NDRF team was called through the village patwari by the people.

Meanwhile, the said child and his companions managed to escape by holding onto a tree.

The NDRF team quickly reached the spot with a boat and brought Sajan out safely. After which the team deployed at Kawanwali Pattan and the Health Department checked him up. Now the boy is safe and well.

Rekh Singh Meena Team Commander NDRF said that apart from this, seven youths have been rescued from Gulaba Wali Bhaini and its adjoining villages. These youths wanted to go to Jalandhar for a Navy recruitment trial. But due to gushing water, it was difficult for them to come out without help. Kanungo Rajinder Kumar, who was posted on duty in these villages, coordinated to rescue these children. Apart from this, a sick person was also rescued by the NDRF team.
