On Friday, Kartik Krishna Paksha Chaturthi, enthusiastic women observed the Karva Chauth fast without taking water, praying for the long life of their respective husbands. Markets were crowded with women for two days, and they did a lot of shopping over the next two to three days.
According to reports, the fast began with the morning Sargi. It is believed that observing the Karva Chauth fast bestows the boon of eternal good fortune. Married women fasted the entire day without consuming water and then listened to the spiritual discourse in the evening. After offering prayers to the moon at night, they have to end fast by taking drinking water from their husbands' hands.
This festival is considered to strengthen the relationship between husband and wife. Wives performed special prayers for their husbands' happiness, prosperity, and long life. In some other parts of the country, it is also known as "Kadak Chaturthi." On Karva Chauth, Lord Ganesh, Goddess Gauri, and the moon are primarily worshipped. The moon is considered a symbol of longevity, happiness, and peace. By worshipping Lord Moon, married women pray for happiness and peace in their married life and long life of the husband
