SELF DEFENCE & WOMEN SAFETY AWARENESS UNDER “SASHAKTI” PROGRAMME AT IITF HELD

The Special Police Unit for Women & Children (SPUWAC), Delhi Police, organized an impactful awareness programme on “SASHAKTI” Women Empowerment Programme at the India International Trade Fair (IITF), Pragati Maidan, today.

The demonstration showcased practical, easy-to-learn self-defence techniques designed especially for women and girls to enhance their confidence and empower them to react effectively in difficult situations. The trained instructors of SPUWAC performed real-life scenario-based tactics, highlighting the importance of awareness, quick response, and presence of mind during threatening situations.

As part of Delhi Police’s continuous initiative “Sashakti – Empowering Women”, the demonstration aims to encourage more women and young girls to join self-defence programmes and understand their own strength and capability as well as Nukkad Natak, performed at focused on key themes of women’s Self-defence, Domestic violence women’s rights, and awareness about cyber safety and helpline numbers.

Through strong dialogues and powerful street-play presentation, the team successfully connected with visitors at the trade fair, especially young girls, women, and families.
The event was graced by the presence of DCP SPUWAC, who encouraged the performers and highlighted the continuous efforts of Delhi Police toward women’s safety, empowerment, and awareness.

In her address, Ms. Anjitha Chepyala, IPS, DCP SPUWAC emphasized: “Delhi Police is committed to ensuring that every woman and girl feels safe, confident, and empowered in every space she occupies. ‘SASHAKTI’ is not just a programme—it is a movement towards building resilience, self-belief, and readiness among women.

Through these self-defence demonstrations and awareness initiatives, we aim to equip our daughters, sisters, and mothers with the skills and knowledge to protect themselves and others. I encourage all women to actively participate in such programmes and become ambassadors of safety in their communities. Together, we can build a safer and stronger society.”
