In a major victory for the shopkeepers of Chandigarh, the Labour Department of the Union Government of India has accepted the long-pending demand of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, exempting shops with up to 20 employees from registration under the Shop Act on Punjab Pattern.

This landmark decision is expected to provide significant relief to small and medium shopkeepers in the city, promoting ease of doing business and boosting the local economy.

Sanjiv Chadha, President of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, welcomed the move, stating that it will go a long way in providing relief to shopkeepers. He appealed to the Central Government to take further pro-commerce steps to support the trading community.

Diwakar Sahoonja, Vice Chairman hailed the decision and urged the government to make registration under the FSSI Act a one-time process instead of frequent expensive renewals.
