Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority and able guidance of the Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sheel Nagu, the Chief Justice-cum-Patron-in-Chief, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, the National Lok Adalat was organized on Saturday in District Court Complex, Sector-43, Chandigarh by State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh.
Thirteen (13) benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act, Bank Recovery cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases, Municipal Matters and Traffic Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.
In today's National Lok Adalat more than 21526 cases were disposed of by the benches of serving Judicial Officers constituted in New District Courts Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh which include pending, pre-litigative cases and traffic challans. In abovesaid cases, total amount of Rs. 35,86,52,763/- is settled.
In addition to above, 240 pre-litigative cases involving amount of Rs. 34,70,858/- were disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS), 26 Labour Dispute Cases involving amount of Rs.55,000/- were disposed of by the Labour Court, 73 were disposed of by State & District Consumer Commissions, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.1,36,90,319/-, 163 cases were disposed of by DRT-II, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.1,31,44,12,577/- and total 328 mutations have been disposed of by Tehsildar (Revenue), U.T., Chandigarh.
A Key highlight of the event was the special visit by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Judge High Court of Punjab and Haryana and Executive Chairman of the State Legal Servies Authority, U.T., Chandigarh, who oversaw the entire process.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal said “MONEY DOESN’T MATTER, JEWELLERY DOESN’T MATTER, PEACE OF MIND ONLY MATTERS. SO END THE LONG LITIGATION AND START NEW FRESH JOURNEY OF LIFE. HE FURTHER SAID THAT IT WILL SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY AND WILL REDUCE BURDEN ON YOUR MIND“. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal lauded the collaborative efforts of the Judicial Officers, Advocates and Administrative staff, emphasizing the critical role of Lok Adalats in promoting alternative disputes resolution. On the basis of interaction of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, seven parties of matrimonial caes were reunited, cases of whom were fixed before the bench of Sh. Punnet Mohan Sharma, Ld. Additional District and Sessions Judge, Chandigarh.
In one civil case, there was a dispute of Rs.3.52 Crores and after three years long battle in District Court at Chandigarh and Panchkula, same was settled on Rs.3.20 Crores by the efforts of Dr. Prikshit, Civil Judge (Jr. Division), Chandigarh and further in the court of Sh. Mohit Singh Dabad, Civil Judge (Jr. Division), Chandigarh, a cheque bounce case was pending since 2019 involving an amount of Rs.53 Lakhs and same was settled in National Lok Adalat. General Manager of District Cooperative Mill Producer United Limited i.e. Verka was present in the court and received the cheque of settled amount.
Today’s National Lok Adalat was conducted under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Executive Chairperson, State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh. Originating from Gandhian Principles, Lok Adalat has become a major helping hand to courts and has largely succeeded in providing a supplementary forum to litigants for determination and settlement of disputes. Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and Sh. Sunil Kumar, Secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Chandigarh thanked for making this Lok Adalat a success and further appealed to resolve their disputes through the Lok Adalats as it provides quick and economical justice.
