In a major breakthrough, Police Station Crime of Chandigarh Police has successfully busted an organisednetwork having inter-state presence, involved in printing and circulating counterfeit Indian currency in various states. A dedicated team of Crime Branch, under the supervision of SP/Crime, close guidance of DSP/Crime, and led by SHO/PS-Crime, arrested five accused persons named Avinash Kumar, Satyam Vishwakarama, Sandeep, Abdulla & Shahzad.and recovered a huge quantity of fake Indian currency notes laptops, printers, tablets&other items used for printing and distributing of Indian counterfeit currencies.
On 19.12.2025, a police party of PS-Crime was on patrolling duty near ISBT-43 when specific information was received regarding Avinash Kumar, a resident of Jammu & Kashmir who was wanted by Rajasthan Police, presently staying in a PG accommodation in Village Kajheri, Sector-52, Chandigarh. The case was registered vide FIR No. 26/2025 U/S 178, 179, 180& 181 BNS-2023, PS-CRIME SECTOR-11, UT, CHANDIGARH
Acting swiftly, checking of various PGs and hotels was conducted. From Village Kajheri, accused Avinash Kumar was apprehended and counterfeit currency sheets and notes of denominations ₹500, ₹200 and ₹50 were recovered from his bag. His associate Satyam Vishwakarma was also apprehended from the same PG. From their possession and room search, counterfeit currency valued at ₹1,01,000/- along with stamping foils and material used in currency printing was recovered.
During further investigation, on 20.12.2025, on the disclosure of accused Satyam, a white Brezza car (CH01-CJ-5179) parked near the same locality was searched and FICN worth ₹4,76,300/- (803 notes of ₹500 and 374 notes of ₹200) was also recovered. On the basis of their disclosure statements, accused Sandeep (Mahendragarh, Haryana), Abdullah and Shahzad (both residents of District Saharanpur, UP) were arrested. The gang was operating across North India and used social media and Telegram groups to procure and circulate fake currency. They also used printers and stamping foils to prepare counterfeit notes.

Total Fake Indian Currency Notes 164 x 500= 82,000/- 94 x 200 = 18,800 /- 4 x50 =200 Total worth Rs. 1,01,000, Vehicle – White Breeza car no. CH01-CJ-5179, sent to Judicial custody.
Satyam Vishwakarama , 12th pass, S/o Shiv Kumar R/o A414 Gali No. 12 Mahavir Enclave, Part 2, PS-Dabri, New Delh, Age-20 Years working as labourer with no previous involvement. Total Fake Indian Currency Notes 803 x 500 = 401500, 374 x 200 = 74800, Total - Rs 4,76,300/-, sent to judicial custody.

MODUS OPERANDI: Accused have come in contact with each other through social media like Instagram/Telegram. Thereafter, they used to lure potential buyers by sending videos/pictures of printed currencies. These social media accounts have become a common platform for meeting. Fake Indian Currency Notes was usually exchanged in the ratio of 1 : 4 i.e. for Rs. 04 Lakhs of Fake Indian Currency Notes, one lakh original currency has to given. The ratio was not fixed and varies as permutual understanding and bargaining.
Fake Indian Currency Notes was usually transported through courier companies but in many cases, these were delivered manually too. The customers/buyers buying these Fake Indian Currency Notes were either selling it further at lower ratio to earn profit or mixing it in bundles of original notes to avoid detection, thus bringing Fake Indian Currency Notes into public circulation.
