Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor election was held on Wednesday, marking the first time the voting was conducted by a show of hands.
The Municipal Corporation House has a total of 36 votes, including 35 councillors and one Member of Parliament.
In the election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 18 votes, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Yogesh Dhingra received 11 votes. Notably, Ramchander Yadav, who had earlier shown a rebel candidate against his party, also voted in favour of the AAP candidate.
Following the voting process, BJP councillor Saurav Joshi was elected as the Mayor of Chandigarh. Congress got 8 Votes.
