The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has sought a panel of names for the appointment of a permanent Director General of Police (DGP) in Punjab. At present, Sh.Gaurav Yadav is serving as the acting DGP of the state.
The move by the UPSC indicates that Punjab is likely to have a full-time, permanent DGP ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled next year. However, neither the Punjab Govt. nor the Punjab Police has officially confirmed yet.
The selection process will involve senior officials from the Punjab Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs. After due consideration, three names will be shortlisted and forwarded for the DGP post. The state government will then be required to select one candidate from the panel and appoint the permanent DGP.
