Director Bureau of Investigation, Punjab, L.K. Yadav, IPS, said that international cooperation through Interpol references, notices and extradition processes is playing a significant role in curbing organized crime and tracking fugitives who escape abroad after committing crimes.

Addressing the media after inspecting various police checkpoints and police stations in Sangrur, he said that under the supervision of SSP Sangrur Sartaj Singh Chahal, IPS, and the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, IPS, Punjab Police is running major campaigns including “War Against Drugs” and “Gangster Te Waar (Operation Prahar)” to arrest wanted criminals and strengthen law enforcement.

He said Sangrur Police has benefited from international mechanisms like Interpol notices and the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) in several cases.

In one such case, Manpreet Singh, wanted in Canada in connection with the second-degree murder of Amanpreet Kaur Saini, was arrested by Sangrur Police on January 14, 2026. His bail applications were rejected by the court and extradition proceedings have been initiated through Interpol.

In another case, a Red Corner Notice has been issued against fugitive accused Jaswant Singh, who fled abroad after being convicted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a 1996 murder case.

He added that under Operation Prahar, Sangrur Police conducted over 500 raids in two phases, arrested several wanted criminals and recovered drugs, illegal weapons and other contraband as part of the ongoing crackdown against organized crime and drug trafficking.
