Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora honoured powerlifting athletes from Ludhiana district who clinched an impressive 15 gold medals across the sub-junior, junior, and senior categories at the Punjab State Powerlifting Championship 2025. The event was organised to recognise and celebrate the players’ outstanding performance in the sport.
Of the medal winners, seven athletes belong to the Ludhiana (West) Assembly constituency, where Arora has been nominated as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the upcoming by-election.
As a token of appreciation, Arora gifted a tracksuit to each player and lauded their commitment and achievements. He urged the athletes to continue striving for excellence in the field of sports and highlighted the pivotal role sports play in the overall development of youth.
“Sports not only ensure physical well-being but also offer promising career opportunities,” said Arora, emphasising the importance of integrating sports into daily life. He further stated that the Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is actively working to promote and strengthen the sports ecosystem across the state.
During the felicitation event, Arora interacted with the players and listened to their concerns. In a show of support, many of the athletes expressed their willingness to volunteer for his election campaign.
Also present at the event was AAP Sports Wing District President Sonia Alag, who played a key role in introducing each athlete to Arora.
