SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Kisan Unions to tell Punjabis why they did not askCM Capt. Amarinder Singh to explain why he had amended the State APMC Act three years back to include all the provisions of the Central Agriculture Ordinance to which he was objecting to now.

SAD president said during a visit of Fazilka district that AAP state convener Bhagwant Mann had acted as a yes man of the CM during the All Party meeting held to discuss the central ordinances. “It seems AAP is set to merge with the Congress soon”. He said as far as the Kisan Unions were concerned they too seemed to be teaming up with the chief minister for ulterior purposes.

Sukhbir Badal said both AAP and the Kisan Unions should tell Punjabis why they kept quiet on this issue for three years. The Unions should also tell farmers of the forthcoming paddy crop and subsequent crops would be procured in their entirety as per MSP or not. “If the food grains are going to be procured as per MSP in their entirety then both AAP and the Kisan Unions should explain what they are protesting against”.

CM should have been asked to explain why the State APMC act had been amended to allow for creation of private yards, direct marketing and e-trade which was also contained in the Farmer Produce and Trade Ordinance.

“As long as the SAD was there MSP and assured marketing were also to stay. SAD had always stood up for the rights of farmers and no sacrifice was too great to protect these rights, he said.

SAD chief said that the party would hold dharna at the village level on July 7 to protest against embezzlement and wrong distribution of ration by Congress leaders. The protests would also highlight the huge power bills being thrust upon the common man arbitrarily besides need for reduction of petrol and diesel prices. He said the party demanded that the Punjab government reduce fuel prices by Rs 10 per litre following which it would also approach the Centre to effect a reduction in central excise.

He asked the Congress government to compensate Jalalabad rice millers who had suffered losses due a high velocity winds which had caused immense damage to their shellers and godowns. The millers should be compensated under the disaster management head, he demanded.
