A grand felicitation ceremony was organised by the NCC Group Headquarters, Chandigarh to honour the extraordinary achievements of Under Officer Padma Namgail of 2 Chandigarh Battalion NCC, Cadet Kritika Sharma of 1 Himachal Pradesh Battalion NCC, and Girl Cadet Instructor Anamika Chaudhary of 2 R & V punjab squadron ncc. These brave cadets & GCI successfully scaled Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, on 18 May 2025, making the entire NCC fraternity and their institutions immensely proud.
The ceremony was graced by Maj Gen J.S. Cheema, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Chandigarh and Brigadier Vikram Singh Chauhan, YSM, Gp Cdr, NCC Gp Chandigarh. The mountaineers were presented with mementoes, certificates, and cash awards in recognition of their awe-inspiring feat of courage, endurance, and determination.
The mountaineering journey of these cadets began with the Pre-Everest Expedition to Mt. Abi Gamin, followed by intensive training during the Basic Mountaineering Course at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Winter Training at Siachen Glacier, and the Mt. Labuche Expedition in Nepal. Each phase tested and sharpened their skills, stamina, and mental resilience.
Their outstanding performance earned them selection into the prestigious 10-member NCC Senior Division/Wing Everest Expedition Team, which summited the peak between 3rd April and 18th May 2025. Their selection followed a highly competitive, all-India screening and training process.
Their triumph was also acknowledged by top defence officials, including Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, during a special felicitation ceremony held in New Delhi.
Their achievement is not only a testament to their personal grit but also serves as a powerful inspiration for all NCC cadets and the youth of the country—proving that with discipline, resilience, and an unyielding spirit, even the highest peaks can be conquered.
