Command Hospital Chandimandir has taken a big step forward in cancer treatment by opening a new Hematology Centre that offers advanced care for serious blood-related diseases. This modern facility, was inaugurated by Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, on 10 May 2025.

The centre is now fully equipped to treat patients with various types of blood disorders and cancers using the latest medical technology. It also offers special treatments like stem cell transplant (also known as bone marrow transplant) and other modern therapies, all under one roof.

On 12 June 2025, the hospital successfully performed its first stem cell transplant on a patient suffering from multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. The operation was led by Surgeon Captain Mirza Saleem Amjad, along with a skilled team of doctors and specially trained nursing officers.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra, a senior expert from PGIMER Chandigarh, also played a key role by training the hospital staff and offering expert support throughout the process. The patient has now recovered well and was safely discharged from the hospital on 30 June 2025.

This successful transplant marks a new beginning for Command Hospital Chandimandir. It will now be able to treat more patients locally, reducing the need to send them to hospitals in Delhi or expensive private centres. This is a big step toward providing affordable, advanced care to soldiers, veterans, and their families.
