In a vibrant celebration of Engineer's Day, Pushpa Gujral Science City hosted a Robotics Championship for engineering and polytechnic students. The event, held annually on September 15 to honour the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, brought together around 300 aspiring engineers from various colleges to demonstrate their innovation, technical skills and teamwork.
The championship served as a dynamic platform for students to showcase their creativity in designing and operating robots. Participants engaged in various challenges highlighting the importance of robotics in today's technological landscape.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City emphasized the transformative role of robots in modern industry. He said that we live in an era where robotics and artificial intelligence are reshaping industries, economies and even the way we live our lives. Dr. Grover highlighted how robots have become integral to numerous sectors, revolutionizing tasks and boosting safety, productivity and efficiency. He underscored their capability to operate in hazardous environments such as nuclear power plants and deep underwater, thereby minimizing risks to human workers. He also added that robots can work tirelessly which increases overall productivity and allows human employees to concentrate on more complex and creative responsibilities.
The event successfully provided a valuable opportunity for the next generation of engineers to apply their knowledge and passion in a competitive and collaborative setting.
Dr. Afzal Sikander, Assistant Professor at NIT Jalandhar, evaluated the performance of the robots during the event. In the Robotics Championship, the 1st and 3rd prizes were won by GNA University, Phagwara (Rs. 7000 and Rs. 3000), while the 2nd prize (Rs.5000) was bagged by a team from Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib.
