In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Police Station, UT Chandigarh has arrested two accused persons in connection with a reviving lapsed insurance policy fraud.
The operation was carried out under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP-Cyber, UT Chandigarh, with close guidance from Sh. A. Venkatesh, DSP Cyber Crime & IT, and supervision of Inspector Ms. Eram Rizvi, SHO, PS-Cyber Crime, Sector 17, Chandigarh.
The Cyber Crime Police Station, Chandigarh, has registered a case on the complaint of Shri Gurbir Singh Deol, residing of Chandigarh, who was cheated of Rs. 3 lakh in the name of reviving his lapsed insurance policy by fraudsters posing as officials of Bajaj Allianz Insurance Company.
During investigation, the technical analysis of mobile numbers and bank account details revealed the involvement of accused Sanjay Shrivastava, residing in Ghaziabad (U.P.), and Gaurav, residing in Delhi,.
Both were arested and from from Sanjay Shrivastava: One Realme-2 mobile phone with SIM cards From Gaurav: One OnePlus Nord-3 mobile phone with SIM card, one Oppo C-61 mobile phone with SIM cards, two ATM cards (Union Bank of India & Indian Overseas Bank), and a PAN Card of Sanjay Shrivastava.
During interrogation, Sanjay Shrivastava disclosed that he had sold multiple bank accounts to Gaurav for Rs. 2000/- each, which were later handed over to a person on commission. Gaurav further disclosed that these accounts and SIM cards were being used to commit cyber frauds.
Both accused were involved in procuring and misusing bank accounts and SIM cards for organized cheating activities. They also revealed the other person, who is suspected to be the mastermind of this scam, and the network of illegal SIM sellers operating in Noida (U.P.)
