Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday said that the Aam Aadmi Party is fully prepared to record a glorious victory in the Tarn Taran by-election.
Addressing rallies in favor of AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu, the Chief Minister said that the enthusiastic public response clearly indicates that because of the pro-people policies of the state government, AAP will register a major win in Tarn Taran. He said that the state government has introduced numerous significant initiatives for the welfare of every section of society, and the people will ensure a massive victory for the party. He stated that the government has ensured the holistic development and prosperity of Punjab and its people, as a result of which citizens are determined to guarantee AAP’s success.
The Chief Minister said that since the opposition has no substantial issue against his government, they are merely criticizing it for the sake of political disruption. Bhagwant Singh Mann added that his government would continue working for public welfare and the state’s development without paying attention to such baseless statements. He noted that the opposition leaders cannot digest the people-friendly decisions being made by the government and, therefore, are resorting to such petty tactics for their selfish motives.
Targeting Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Chief Minister said that the former Deputy Chief Minister is again trying to mislead people through political deceit. Mocking the Badal family, he said they have committed unforgivable sins against Punjab and its people. He remarked that issuing statements cannot absolve them of their misdeeds, as the public knows how these leaders have ruined the state.
The Chief Minister reiterated that Sukhbir brags about development during his tenure but never speaks about the Bargari firing incident where innocent people were shot or the drug menace that claimed many young lives. He said these issues are evidence of the Akalis’ mis governance adding that the Badal family worked solely to expand their businesses while disregarding the welfare of Punjab’s citizens. He said that the 2007–2017 period was the darkest era for the state, dominated by transport, cable, sand, drug, and other mafias.
Commenting on Congress state president Raja Warring, the Chief Minister stated that he has exposed the narrow mindset of the Congress and is now seeking forgiveness. He added that it is on record that during Akali rule, the drug problem grew to alarming levels due to political patronage. The state government, he said, will show no leniency toward the “generals” responsible for the destruction of youth through drugs.
The Chief Minister said that these leaders not only patronized the drug trade but, according to reports, even used official vehicles to sell or distribute drugs. He remarked that traditional political parties envy him because they cannot digest that a man from a common family can run the state effectively. He said that The people have lost faith in traditional parties due to their anti-people and anti-Punjab policies.
The Chief Minister said that the people will never forgive those parties that destroyed Punjab or supported the attack with tanks and artillery on Sri Harmandir Sahib.
He said that these traditional parties ruthlessly looted the state and its people, which is why the citizens have shown them the exit door. He added that prominent leaders like former Chief Ministers Parkash Singh Badal and Charanjit Singh Channi, Akali leaders Sukhbir Singh Badal, Bikram Majithia, and others have been rejected by the electorate.
The Chief Minister said these leaders are now scrambling for political survival and fighting among themselves for relevance.
Speaking about government recruitment, the Chief Minister said that the entire process was conducted transparently, and none of the 58,962 government appointments have been challenged in court something that brings pride to the Punjab Government. He stated that merit-based recruitment has renewed the youth’s faith in the government, prompting many to prepare for state jobs instead of seeking opportunities abroad.
The chief Minister highlighted that 90 percent of households in Punjab now receive zero electricity bills, providing major economic relief. He said that farmers are getting uninterrupted power supply for paddy cultivation, resolving long-standing issues. Bhagwant Singh Mann added that the government has safeguarded the interests of every section of society, enabling Punjab’s continuous progress.
On improving education, the Chief Minister said that government schools are being upgraded as “Schools of Eminence” to ensure quality education. It is a matter of pride, he added, that Punjab has surpassed Kerala to secure the top position in the National Achievement Survey conducted by the Government of India. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that students of 848 government schools passed the NEET exam, 265 cleared JEE (Main), and 45 qualified JEE (Advanced).
The Chief minister emphasized that poverty and social evils cannot be eradicated merely through subsidies or free facilities—education is the key to uplifting living standards and breaking the cycle of poverty.
Discussing the Road Safety Force, he said it has saved hundreds of lives since its inception. During his time as a Member of Parliament, data showed that over 5,000 lives were lost yearly in road accidents across Punjab. The establishment of the SSF has reduced road fatalities by 48 percent, setting an example for other states.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the force comprises trained personnel, including women, and operates 144 modern vehicles. This force, he said, is working effectively and has earned praise from both the Central Government and several other states.
